During the April 11 meeting, Rotary Exchange student Afra, from Villanova, Italy, presented the club with a banner from her hometown Rotary Club while receiving a banner from the Parkersburg Club. John Reed of the MOV Solid Waste Authority explains the various programs they have in place to reduce refuse and promote recycling in our area. Reed said our next area landfill will need to be operational by 2070. Two Parkersburg Rotarians, Paul Thornton and Andy Hartleben serve on the Solid Waste Authority board.
Joe Oliverio, Executive Director of RESA V spoke to Rotarians at their March 14 meeting. His agency, funded by the state legislature, supports schools in five counties including Wood. They provide training, maintenance, curriculum support, centralized purchasing, just to name a few of their services.
During the club’s Feb. 8 meeting, Alissa Novoselick, Executive Director of the Tamarack Foundation explained to Rotarians how her organization helps emerging artists market their creations in, and outside of West Virginia’s borders.
Our club’s own Andrea Shirey announces “Laugh United” a comedy fundraiser scheduled onApril 16 at the Smoot Theater for the United Way of the MOV during the club’s Feb. 1 meeting.
During the January 25 meeting, fellow Rotarian and Chemours Plant Manager Bob Fehrenbacher outlined the changes taking place at the former DuPont Washington Works since the new company began operations on July 1, 2015. Fehrenbacher said the future looks bright for Chemours in the Mid Ohio Valley. Follow on Twitter @chemours
WVU Senior Engineering student, Rebecca Cain spoke to Rotarians at their Jan. 10 meeting about Engineers Without Borders and their efforts to establish clean water sources in El Salvador. Cain has been a DuPont co-op student at Washington Works.
