Michelle Toman on Suicide Prevention

Michelle Toman speaks from personal experience to Rotarians about suicide prevention, and the upcoming Out of the Darkness Walk on September 26 at Parkersburg City Park. Toman, from Ritchie Co., worked to get a bill passed in the Legislature that will address suicide causes and prevention techniques in Middle and High School classrooms.

The Rotary Club of Parkersburg was one of the civic clubs responsible for establishing the Community Chest, the predesessor to the local United Way.

Ebola survivor Dr. Kent Brantly

During their 4/13/15 meeting, Ebola survivor Dr. Kent Brantly told Parkersburg Rotarians that God has a plan for him after surviving the deadly virus during last summer. Brantly, an Indiana native, revealed that his father graduated from WVU Medical School and enjoyed living in Morgantown several years ago.

Bob Newell Provides a State of the City Address

Parkersburg Mayor and Rotarian, Bob Newell, provides a state of the city address to the club on January 12, 2015. Newell discussed the expanding bike trail, Farmer’s Market, Minor League baseball plans, and the potential impact of the Cracker plant on housing in the area.
